Dr. José Luis Vargas Gutiérrez is currently the Director of the Office of Agreements, Cooperation and Internationalization at the University of San Agustín de Arequipa (UNSA), where he is also a Professor of Sociology, specializing in classical and contemporary sociological theory, politics and culture. He has also held professorial positions at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP) and José Carlos Mariátegui University (UJCM).
In addition to his current positions at UNSA, Dr. Gutiérrez has previously held positions as the Director of the Professional School of Sociology, Dean of the College of Sociologists and President of the Coordination Table for the Fight Against Poverty (MCLCP).
Dr. Gutiérrez has authored a number of books, including “Goodbye to Shame” and “Quarter Hour.” He has received a Medal of the City of Arequipa for his sociocultural work.
